Total Heart and Lung function are the determinants of human efficiency to work or exercise.

It  determines the capacity for day to day activity and blood is the connecting liquid organ which connects them as it flows through the blood vessels.

The lungs function in collaboration with the heart and blood flowing through the lungs determines the efficiency of the system.

The blood should have enough oxygen carrying capacity with good quality hemoglobin to be normal.

Thus low amount or bad quality of hemoglobin can decrease the efficiency blood and the cardio-pulmonary   system.

Checking of Hemoglobin amount and quality is essential in children and Adults.

Thallasemia , Sickle cell Disease, Anemia, Leukemia are sometimes causing poor efficiency and shortness of breath.

The lung function drops with acute damage to part of the organ, part of the lobe or segment.

The amount of air flowing in and out of functioning alveolus (air sacs) determines the availability of oxygen to Red Blood Cells and removal of Carbon dioxide from the blood.

The amount of blood flowing in the air sac and amount of air flowing in the air sac determines the efficiency of the air sac units and the efficiency of cardiovascular system depends on it.

Pulmonary Function Tests are done to evaluate the Lung Functions. These are

Spirometry

Lung Volumes

Diffusion Capacity
